Digestive 200g vital-i-TEA Organic Herbal Tea

What it does

vital-i-TEA Digestive Organic Herbal Tea gently restores and maintains optimal digestive function and structure. It tastes delicious and can be enjoyed regularly .

As the interface between what we eat and what we absorb or eliminate, digestion is the first step in determining what we are, and an important pillar of health for the entire body. (hence the saying- you are what you eat!)

Simple as this may sound, there are two points to keep in mind when considering digestive health: Function and Structure:

Digestive Function is interdependent on a number of other body systems, particularly the nervous system and stress fluctuations. Here, we must consider the status of appetite and hunger, regularity of elimination (constipation etc), patterns of absorption, cravings and any other symptoms present such as discomfort, cramping or wind, burning sensations, sluggishness or congestion etc.

Digestive Structure is influenced by long-term functions. Examples of impaired structure are hyperacidity, pain upon evacuation, inflammation and ulceration along with subtle damage to the lining of the digestive tract. This may also lead to symptoms in other parts of the body such as allergy or immunological disorders also known as 'leaky gut syndrome' where molecules enter blood circulation incompletely digested triggering such reactions. Impairments or structural damage may require a professional diagnosis, however there is much we can do to both manage functional disorders and prevent any structural complications. This is particularly important given modern every day stressors and pollution in our environment.

What is in it?

  • Peppermint - Replace those after dinner mints with the true taste of organic peppermint found in our teas. Peppermint is a popular, widely used and effective herb with a long history in the treatment of cramping or colicky discomfort- particularly after meals. In addition, it improves absorption of food, prevents feelings of nausea and gently aids liver function.
  • Chamomile - Calming Chamomile is a perfect example how herbs work in a number of ways across several body systems for maximum benefit. Chamomile relaxes spasm or cramping, reduces gas, and improves the absorption of food. It reduces inflammation and/or allergy while also calming the nervous system to the extent that it is favoured as a soothing sedative and relaxant, particularly if nervous tension affects digestion.
  • Slippery Elm - With an unmatched soothing quality on the lining of the digestive tract, Slippery Elm is a protective, nourishing and soothing addition to the tea. It is also a valuable food for the friendly bacteria that reside in the Gastro-intestinal system.
  • Meadowsweet - acts to balance the scales of hyper and hypo-acidity and is an effective anti-inflammatory. Its activity is primarily on the surface lining of the gut, as a gentle restorative or preventative remedy for inflammation or ulceration.
  • Ginger - Dried Ginger is warming for the digestion, stimulating digestion and metabolism while clearing congestive symptoms (e.g. bad breath) thus is also useful for the management of nausea, where it is used to treat travel sickness and morning sickness - (in low doses.)
  • Cinnamon - Spicy Cinnamon, like ginger also warms the digestion and increases blood circulation thus stimulating metabolism. The essential oils in cinnamon stimulate salivary glands and stomach activity, increasing appetite and taste of other herbs/ foods taken with it. Its slight astringency tones the digestive lining.
  • Licorice - More than just deliciously sweet, Licorice regulates blood sugar levels and strongly assists in the adaption to stress; both of which influence gastro-intestinal health. Licorice has an anti-inflammatory and soothing effect on gastrointestinal lining. Lastly, licorice harmonizes the mixture of herbs in the tea.
